Tigers eye is a beautiful and unique gemstone known for its chatoyancy, which is a shimmering, or "cat's eye' effect caused by the reflection of the light on its fibrous structure. Tigers eye typically has a golden to reddish brown colour, but can also be a brighter red or blue and gold which is a bit rarer to obtain. Tigers eye if a type of quartz, specifically a type of chalcedony. It is formed when the quartz is replaced by fibrous crocidolite, which is then transformed into iron oxide through a process called pedomorphosis.
